EJKW Publishing was set up in 2010 by author James Whiley and illustrator Patrick Hawkins (who is, admittedly, my brother) to publish and distribute their first children's book, Stanley the Manly Ferry. Since then, they've produced two more books in the series.

When they approached me in 2011, they had already paid an Aussie web developer to create an e-commerce site for their books but, as a fledgling publishing company, they wanted a cheaper solution for a fairly static "parent" site; one that they could update on a regular basis and that they would have more editorial control over.

Since EJKW is based in Sydney, all our correspondence during the website build was done by phone and email. Based on their brief, I was able to produce a specification. Based on this spec, EJKW was then able to provide me with the artwork and copy that I needed to populate their site. 

Since the artwork is so strong, we chose a Weebly template that would showcase it as much as possible. As my brother is already a Weebly user, he was able to log in to their Weebly account from Australia to upload and manipulate the artwork. I was then able to focus on editing any existing copy and creating any new text. 

I am now contracted to maintain EJKW's website. If something takes 15 minutes to do, that is how long I charge for (no rounding up here). Our next online project relates to SEO and link building.

This website was produced for only a few hundred pounds.
